A still vague departure
Already regretted for the fourth season of The Witcher and the next Superman movie, British actor Henry Cavill has almost lost everything at the end of 2022. Besides the change Sudden Project by James Gunn and Peter Safran for DC putting on the bench the interpreter of Clark Kent in Man of Steelhis departure from the filming of the Netflix series inspired by the literary saga of Andrzej Sapkowski would have originated his attachment to the character of Geralt.
Indeed, Henry Cavill is renowned in the sphere “geek“for his attachment to certain video games (Warcraft and Warhammer in particular) such as The Witcher 3. Prior to his role as the protagonist, he even read all the books (he started with the game) to immerse himself in the skin of the “Blaviken Butcher“.
Something that he will have defended body and soul in front of the producers to believe the rumors of the corridor: not being able to be heard to bring his vision of the character in the series, he would have decided to finish with the adaptation while giving way to Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games especially). A witness to his investment and his love for the license… which he proved on another occasion.
A financial sacrifice?
Indeed, it is also to believe his salary for the series which would be the measure of his attachment to The Witcher. In an article published by Variety, the media lists the highest salaries received by actors in television series. While Winona Ryder / David Harbor (Stranger Things) receive between $350,000 and $400, bigger stars (judging the size of the check) inherit more than half a million dollars per episode. This is the case of Chris Pratt for The Terminal List ($1.4 million) from Bryan Cranston for Your Honor ($750,000), or Pedro Pascal ($600,000) for The Last of Us.
Henry Cavill receives “only” $400,000 per episode, for a total of $3.2 million. A sum which, in absolute terms, is enormous but which challenges certain media which compare Cavill’s check with other Hollywood stars: as mentioned above, Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) inherits more than one million dollars for each episode of The Terminal List while Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark / Iron Man) would have collected more than two million per episode of the series The Sympatizer. Sums that Cavill would still not have matched with season 2 of The Witcher.
A lesser pay than some of his counterparts which some say could be a sign of dedication to The Witcher universe. Something he will repeat on the occasion of the production of the series Warhammer 40 000 par Amazon ?. As the saying goes, “when you love you don’t count“.
