Bumrah, Shami, and Shardul are being rested while the Indian board has also decided to rest Rishabh Pant. After the New Zealand series, India will tour South Africa, after which the Indian players will have to play the West Indies series at home. So BCCI is going to take this decision. Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has also been rested for the first Test. However, Kohli will take charge again in the Mumbai Test.

The team will be without the Indian captain at home due to a back-to-back tour of South Africa in December. In the absence of Virat, the question is now who will take charge of the Indian Test team? Current Indian T20 captain Rohit Sharma or Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has started a controversy over who will lead the team in Kanpur. It is expected that the selectors will rely on Rahane, but it is heard that the final decision will be with the new coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid.

However, it was decided in the evening that Rohit Sharma is resting from the Test series. As a result, Ajinkya Rahane is the captain of the first Test match. Wriddhiman Saha of Bengal will be the wicket-keeper for the Indian team in the absence of Rishabh Pant. Andhra Pradesh’s KS Bharath is emerging as the second keeper. The board may give the players two days off before the start of the third T20I series against New Zealand at home. The Indian board has given the players who are playing the T20 World Cup time off to spend time with their families.

The Indian board may also rest those selected for the T20I series against New Zealand from the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. BCCI is deciding to take a rest, keeping in mind the temporary release of Bio Bubble from prison before the South Africa tour.

The BCCI will also announce the names of new coach Rahul Dravid’s assistants on the day of the selection of the Test team against the Kiwis. Vikram Rathore will be the batting coach, Paras Mamre will be the bowling coach and T Dilip will be appointed as the fielding coach of the Indian team.
