Just as the first film had the King of crime as the main villain, but also other “secondaries” such as Doctor Octopus, Prowler and others, the sequel will feature Mancha as the main threat, although other characters will also pose a danger to Miles and your friends.

In an interview to Entertainment Weeklythe film’s producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have revealed that Spider-Man 2099 Oscar Isaac seems to be some kind of antagonist. Miller explained how Miles and Manuel “think what they are doing is the right thing”:

“He’s not the villain of the movie, but he’s kind of an antagonist to Miles because they both think what they’re doing is the right thing.”

As for the already mentioned great villain of the story, Mancha, the producers claim that it is “a perfect character for animation” it is a “kind of dark mirror of the protagonist”:

“I like villains best when they reflect the hero’s journeys — a kind of dark mirror of the protagonists… And I think Mancha is no different. He wants to be seen as legit. He’s a character who has a silly costume and isn’t always seen as the top tier of Spider-Man’s enemies, but like all of us, he wants to be taken seriously.”

As for Miles Morales himself, Miller confirmed that, as a young adult, he is “spreading its wings and leaving the nest”:

“As he grows up, he’s trying to figure out how he can go out and see the world and spread his wings and leave the nest…but he also feels rooted in his home and his family. Is it that push from your life as a teenager, where you’re like, how can I be my own person but also not lose where I came from?”
