Make a passport? No need to go anywhere, learn the easy way to apply online!


#Kolkata: Passports can be applied for online at the official Passport Service website. The Ministry of External Affairs currently verifies all online passport application processes. So if you want to renew or apply for a new passport, you have to go through the online application process.

How to Apply for Passport Online –

Log in to Passport Services

Step 1 – Go to the official website of the Passport Service and click on the ‘Application’ section.

Step 2 – If an existing user, login using user ID and password.

Step 3 – If one is a first time user one has to register and create a new account. Follow the steps below to register –

Step 4 – Click on this link and click on ‘Register Now’ option.

Step 5 – Enter login id and password. Then enter the captcha code and click on ‘Register’.

How to Select Application Type –

After logging in, choose the services –

– New passport/passport reissue.

– Diplomatic Passport/Government Passport.

– Police Clearance Certificate (PCC).

– Identity Certificate.

– Fill the application form

Application form can be filled online or offline. To fill the application form offline, follow the steps given below –

Step 1 – Click on the given link to download the application form in soft copy.

Step 2 – A link to an electronic copy of the following forms will appear One has to download the relevant form based on their application type –

– Fresh/re issue

– Police Clearance Certificate

– Diplomatic/Official

– Identity Certificate

Step 3 – Fill the application e-form and click on ‘Upload e-Form’ link.

Step 4 – Filled application form should be uploaded.

Application form can also be filled and submitted online. One can fill the form partially and complete the process at a later date. It is advised to check the form once before submitting it.

Step 5 – Schedule, pay and book appointments.

Once the form is filled, a fee is payable. In this case the fee can be paid online or the payment can be made by visiting the nearest passport service office. Where the application form and required documents are to be submitted. Then schedule an appointment with your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or relevant passport authority. Booking an appointment can be done in the following manner –

Step 1 – Go to the ‘Applicant Home’ page and click on ‘View Saved/Submitted Application’.

Step 2 – The details of the submitted application form will be displayed. Select the ARN of the form submitted.

Step 3 – From the given options click on ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ option.

Step 4 – Next, the mode of payment has to be chosen from the two provided, ie – online payment and challan payment.

In this case it is important to note that if paying for an instant appointment, the online fee is the same as the regular passport fee. Balance amount to be paid to PSK on appointment date. Payment can also be made online through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking or SBI Bank Challan.

In this case if payment is made online, then proceed to appointment booking immediately. If one wants to pay through challan then he has to do the following –

– The challan should be taken to the SBI branch and the required amount should be paid in cash. (Note: This can be done after 3 hours of invoice generation, which is valid for 85 days).

– Next, a copy of the invoice should be collected from the payee bank staff.

– Bank takes 2 days to verify the ARN details provided in the invoice.

– Successful payment of fees will be displayed on the website after verification. Where applicant can ‘Track Payment Status’. In this case an e-mail update is sent.
