#Kolkata: A long time ago Even today, Banedi Bari Pooja carries on the same tradition. How much unknown history is told by the brick-lime-stones of the puja building There are many pujas spread across the city of Kolkata One such puja is held in Lahabari How many history and traditions are associated with Lahad puja
There are three rooms in this house Every year the turn changes Sometimes the elder party, sometimes the table party and sometimes the responsibility of the puja rests on the younger party This year too, Puja celebrations have started in full swing Now Tagore is alone Another layer of soil will fall on Tagore. The potter is sitting in the Thakur Dalan building the dugga by pounding the clay. Adal does not open if it is not done. Gradually Mrinmayi’s throat-chin-lips-fingers will become clear. If there is color on the ground, mother will catch it in a beautiful form. This is how Mrinmoyi is born every year in the Laha family’s Thakurdalan in Thanthania, North Kolkata. But not Mahishasuramardini, Goddess Durga is worshiped as Jagajjanani in the Laha family. Neither straight nor vice versa, Lahabari’s Durga Puja structure is worshiped 2-3 days after Janmashtami. A small clay Ganesha is worshiped within the structure. Later when the big Ganesha is made, the small Ganesha is placed inside the belly of the big Ganesha. The idol of Ekchala is worshiped in this family since the beginning.
Durga Pratima is symbolically worshiped in this house. Since Durga Puja is held in this family, no more idols are worshiped in this house. The lion army of Ashtadhatu, the Kuldevi of the house, was worshiped on those four days. This Vaishnava family considers the slaughter of Mahisasu to be atrocious. So Mother Durga doesn’t come as Dashabhuja in the family. He came in the form of Hargauri. Durga sits on Lord Shiva’s lap. Shiva’s arms surround him. Durga’s eyes are closed. She is also the house goddess of the family. The idol of Ashtadhatu is called Jai Jai Maa. He was also worshiped in Tagore Dalan for a few days of puja. After the puja he was taken back to Tagore. It is said that the idol of Ashtadhatu was left in the forest by the bandits. It was lying in the forest for a long time. After that, the wife of Nabakrishna Laha, the head of the family, got the dream of her mother. As directed by the goddess, he was brought from the forest and installed in the Laha house. Since then, the family started to grow.
The history of the family says that this puja is 226 years old. But there is a little disagreement about this There is disagreement as to who initiated this puja, Nabakrishna Laha or Durgacharan Laha. Many say that the Durgo festival starts in Lahabari at least three months before Durgacharan. Some say Rajivalochan Laha, while others say Tasya’s son Pranakrishna Laha was buried during Durga Puja. Even today, this family continues to carry on the tradition of Durga Puja in North Kolkata. The Laha family is now divided into several groups. Big, table, small. All partners take turns to perform the puja.
Puja rituals are full of variations. During Bodhan on the sixth day, the family goddess Singha Vahini is worshiped on a silver throne. No animal sacrifice is offered in their puja. Being of Vaishnava religion, moldy gourd and cucumber are sacrificed in this family. One of the highlights of Durga Puja in this family is Sandhi Puja on Ashtami. As long as the sandhi puja lasts, the women of the house sit with their hands and heads burning dust in the soil. Variety is also offered. Puja enjoyment in this family is only sweet. 21 types of sweets are served including different types of nadu. Earlier, all the sweets were made with Vienna But now that is not the case Now along with making sweets with Vien, sweets are also offered outside to the mother
This is not the end, the ritual of idol sacrifice is also novel. First, the women of the house welcome the clay Durga Pratima and Jai Jai Maa standing in front of her Then the statue of Jai Jai Maa or Singbhaini is taken to the Thakur room of the house Then the clay idol is tied with a rope and taken away In fact, the corpse is carried on the shoulder And that’s why the goddess idol is not carried on the shoulder in this house After Durga Pratima left the house, the door of the house was closed. The door of the house remains closed until the structure is returned by sacrifice It is said in the family, Durgacharan Laha, the master of the house, was taking a bath after returning home. At that time, he saw a girl coming and asking for alms. Disgusted and drove him away. After a while Durgacharan realized that the girl was none other than Mother Durga herself. After that a new rule of Durga Puja of this family started from his time. All the doors and windows of the house are closed during the ablution. The Durga idol exits through the main door. Then the door closed. Returning home, Karta shouted three times from outside the front door and asked, “Is mother inside the house?” The housekeeper answered from behind, the family goddess Joy Joy Ma has gone back to Thakurghar. And Mother Durga left for Kailash. On getting this answer the householder entered the house.
